The goal of the Swiss Payment Monitor is to provide a comprehensive overview of the Swiss payment landscape from different perspectives. The missing out potential of a visual representation for this overview, that will back up the high value of the provided data, gave the opportunity to drive a complete new approach and lead way for a proper visualization.
By combining a variety of research methods, the study provides an integrated view of the payment method market and enables the collection of new developments and identification of relevant drivers over time through regular annual data collection. Displaying these data streams in the most efficient way was our aim.
We created a unique product with modern identity. Color, icons & typography suppoort the data lineup, focus pages, diagrams and infographs resulting in a digital booklet & printable pdf.
The data about the micro- and macro-perspective is based on the analysis of payment behavior by ZHAW (Zürcher Hochschule für angewandte Wissenschaften / University of Applied Sciences) and was mostly delivered as text worksheets. Finding an an appropriate way of structuring, we went through comprehensive analysis of all the data provided.
We defined a corresponding style & moodboard for this small universe of scientifically approached data.
Scientific data has a lot of potential to process it in a usable & understandable way for everybody. Therefore we were looking for a matching font pair – in this case Merriweather & Acumin are going hand in hand for a contemporary typeface.
Blue, green and violet are the major colors to support the study visually. The rather cold color palette conveys credibility and helps with the exploration and understanding of the complex data. Illustrative icon combinations in various shades provide a quicker grasp for its context.
The layout consist of several data lineups such as comparison tables, cake diagrams, bar- and line charts that help to increase understandability for the provided data and its value. The 2019 issue included focus topics like "security" for which the layout alternates and thus generates a visual emphasis.
Altogether it creates a comprehensive approach for visualizing the financial analysis into a compact compendium of easy to understand infographics.
